This country has dived head first into a cesspool of hatred and ugliness undeniably disgusting and pathetic to the beating drum of 'patriotism'.

For decades we thought that good and decent people had made strides through the civil rights movement, beating back racism and hatred, but I must say, I am now convinced that what was done was to drive it underground.

Today there are people in authoritative positions, with influence and power who are blatantly demonstrating racism and hatred under the guise of patriotism and love of country, which has allowed those who embraced such sentiments to feel empowered and become more vocal once again.
